PETER E. D’AMICO
Peter D’Amico became Managing Director of SCB International Holdings, LLC effective April 2018 when SCB became a wholly owned subsidiary of Charah, LLC.
Peter originally founded the company as Bulk Materials International (BMI) in 1986. He was one of the first to import raw materials for the cement industry into the U.S. from international sources. Drawing on his chemical industry background and technical expertise, he saw the need to integrate technical support services and logistics capabilities in the company’s offerings, setting new industry standards for quality and service. He has established the company as a well-respected and prominent supplier to the global cement industry and the largest marketer of GBFS into the U.S.
Under his direction, SCB focused on helping our customers meet or exceed environmental compliance with cost effective and creative solutions for fly ash beneficiation and grinding technologies. These patented technologies will help to enhance our portfolio of sustainable offerings for our customers.
Previously Peter held several management positions in marketing and sales with Union Carbide Corporation. He holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Peter has been recognized as a leader in the community of Newtown, Connecticut by the United Way of Western Connecticut, the Connecticut Yankee Council of Greater Danbury Boy Scouts and was named the 2015 Macricostas Entrepreneur of the Year by Western Connecticut State University.
Vice President – Global Sourcing
Chris D’Amico joined the company in 2002. Mr. D’Amico is Vice President, Global Sourcing responsible for the sourcing of various raw materials for SCB International including Bauxite, Industrial Slag, IRM, and Mill Scale. Mr. D’Amico also has Regional Sales responsibility covering accounts in Florida.
Previously, Mr. D’Amico was an Associate Trader with the International Nederlands Group (ING) in New York City. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.
Vice President Sales & Marketing
Joseph Hogan joined the company as Director Sales and Marketing in 2005. In this capacity, Mr. Hogan has sales responsibility from the Great Lakes region to the Midwest and the central Gulf Coast. Mr. Hogan also has sales responsibility for the West Coast US and South America.
Most recently, Mr. Hogan served in an executive sales capacity with Cimento Tupi Americas and, earlier, he was with St Mary’s Cement. He spent the greater part of his career with Blue Circle Cement, where for 18 years he held various sales and logistics positions throughout the United States.
Mr. Hogan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Gonzaga University.
Sales Manager – Mid Atlantic and Southeast Regions
Peggy Rennick joined the company in 1999. Ms. Rennick is the Regional Sales Manager responsible for sales and sourcing in the mid-Atlantic and south eastern region of the US.
Ms. Rennick has an extensive background in mining and quarry management, as well as mineral processing, handling and management. Ms Rennick has been involved in ore reserve management and acquisition, with special emphasis on reserve exploration and permitting of limestone reserves. She has managed four quarry operations for cement manufacture and aggregate production and has been involved in all phases of project management throughout her career. Her education in Geology and career experience in the cement industry, are and ideal complement for SCB. Peggy is a licensed Professional Geologist in the state of PA.
Ms. Rennick holds a B.A. degree in Geology from Kutztown State College.
Director Business Development
Mike Varner joined SCB International June 2017 as Director of Business Development.
Mr. Varner will lead the company’s aggressive growth plan to provide integrated products and services to the power generation market in the area of Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR), including its patented Mercury Capture Systems (MCS) technology to allow beneficial use of coal fly ash, activated carbon, waste water sludge, and other industrial dusts.
He has over 20 years of experience in process engineering, project management, sales and marketing for a wide range of industrial products and services. Prior to joining SCB, Mr. Varner was Senior Sales Manager for General Electric.
Mr. Varner has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Akron. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Project Management Professional (PMP).
Vice President Technology
Christopher Poling joined the company as Manager of Technical Business Development August 2008. Mr. Poling is currently Vice President Technology for SCB developing several patents related to removing mercury from industrial gas streams without the use of activated carbon. The design and construction of the Thermal Desorption Gas Reactor (TDGR) will allow SCB to remove mercury from any fine materials and isolate it safely. Mr. Poling also works as an internal consultant to create methods for the use of alternative raw materials and evaluates potential raw materials from other industries.
Prior to joining SCB Mr. Poling held various management positions with leading cement manufactures; most recently as Plant Manager of Lafarge Canada’s Richmond facility in British Columbia. Previously he held the position of Plant Manager at the Sparrows Point Slag Grinding and Granulation Plant for Lafarge North America in Baltimore, Maryland. During his tenure at these facilities he helped set milestone achievements in the areas of safety, cost reduction, quality and production.
During his career, Mr. Poling has worked for such industry leaders as Morton Salt, United States Gypsum Company, Blue Circle Cement and Lafarge North America.
His background in technical engineering, project management, operations management and commissioning and construction management provides a broad perspective on the processes related to the handling and processing of bulk materials.
Mr. Poling received a Bachelors degree in Engineering Management and also a Masters in Civil Engineering Construction Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. He served on the Board of Trustees for Stevens Institute of Technology for two years.
MELISSA HARRISON, PE
Technical Director Business Development
Melissa Harrison, P.E., joined the company in June 2011. As Technical Director Business Development, Ms. Harrison works with special projects and business development throughout North America. Ms. Harrison has held a variety of technical positions with leading cement manufacturers, most recently with Lafarge as Marketing Analyst for its US East Business unit in Alpharetta, GA. Previously she served in the roles of Technical Service Engineer in Boston and Technical Sales Representative in Baltimore.
Ms. Harrison began her career with Blue Circle Cement as an environmental engineer and moved into the role of cement process engineer and special projects team member in various locations such as the Harleyville Cement Plant and the Sparrows Point Slag Facility. She also worked on several projects in Canada and England.
Ms. Harrison received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University and a Master of Business Administration from The Citadel. Through her field experience she gained an extensive technical knowledge of concrete and has several certifications from the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association including Pervious Concrete Technician and Concrete Technologist Level 4 – Durability. Ms. Harrison is a LEED Accredited Professional who brings an advanced knowledge of sustainable construction practices inclusive of the raw materials we provide.
Manager- Chartering and Operations
Christina Garguilo joined the company in March 2003. Ms. Garguilo is Manager- Chartering and Operations. She is responsible for SCB’s global shipping contract negotiations and oversees the company’s operations for ocean freight and logistics. Her responsibilities include maintaining the relationships with brokers, shipowners and other logistics providers.
Prior to joining the company, Ms. Garguilo was a Business Analyst for Louis Dreyfus.
Ms. Garguilo has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Fairfield University.
Salvatore D’Amico joined the company in 1990. Mr. D’Amico is responsible for coordinating all domestic truck transportation for the company.
Mr. D’Amico has a Bachelor of Arts degree from William Patterson College.
Matthew D’Amico joined the company in 1997. Mr. D’Amico is responsible for coordinating all domestic rail and ground transportation for the company. Mr. D’Amico is also involved in sourcing of clay and ash.
Mr. D’Amico has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Western Connecticut State University.
Vice President, Finance
Stephen Conte joined the company in April 2002. As Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer he is responsible for the general accounting, financial reporting, treasury management and risk management. Mr. Conte also manages SCB’s Human Resource activities.
Mr. Conte joined SCB after serving more than twelve years in the utility industry, where he held a variety of financial management positions, responsible for general accounting, SEC and financial reporting, treasury management and risk management.
Mr. Conte holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Quinnipiac University and an MBA degree in Finance from Sacred Heart University.
Accounts Receivable and Invoicing
Genevieve Echavarria joined the company in July 2011. Ms. Echavarria is responsible for billing for the company.
Ms. Echavarria has a Bachelor of Science degree from Manhattan College and a Masters of Science from Long Island University.
Accounting, Billing & Operations
Robin Schuppert joined the company in 2016. Mr. Schuppert is responsible for billing and operations for the company. Mr. Schuppert has a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Quinnipiac University.
Kaki Taylor joined the company in 2005 as the Manager of Marketing and Sales Support. Ms. Taylor is responsible for the marketing and sales reporting and coordination. Effective January 2011, Ms. Taylor became Executive Assistant reporting directly to Peter D’Amico, president and CEO.
Prior to joining the company, Ms. Taylor was Manager – Strategic Accounts for Pitney Bowes/Imagistics, a major US office equipment company. She was responsible for sales and marketing for five of the company’s largest accounts.
Ms. Taylor holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Denison University.
Business Development Manager
Narayanasamy Vijayarethinam joined SCB International May 2016 as Business Development Manager in Asia based in Singapore with key account responsibilities for the Middle East market.
Mr. Vijay has over 30 years of professional experience in construction chemicals, specialist construction products and applications, concrete production, cement and concrete technology. Having lived and worked in Thailand for 4 years and in China for 9 years in a Senior Management role for a Swiss Construction Chemicals company, Mr. Vijay brings to SCB a wealth of regional experience in Sales & Marketing, Sourcing, Channel and Logistic Management.
A concrete engineer by profession and having completed his studies in Business Efficiency and Productivity Management and Marketing Management, Mr. Vijay holds a MBA degree in Business Administration from University of Leicester.
